$45,000 down!

We've unlocked our revision of Tiny Frontiers as a free PDF to all backers here! Thanks so much for making this happen!

Alan has been hard at work (he finished the revision this week), and it's out to playtesters and editors for eyes on the text. Just new art and micro-settings and we're set!

$50,000

So what is our $50,000 stretch goal?

This is our last stretch goal for the campaign, and it has to be a good one. So we've engaged our friend and RPG writer Alana Joli Abbot (who has written on the award-winning Serenity RPG and more) to help us with a kid-friendly version of Tiny Dungeon!

We're calling it: Tiny Dungeon: Hatchling Edition, and all backers will get the PDF for free as part of Wave II fulfillment!

I'll explain the reasoning behind this.

Tiny Dungeon 2e is a great game, and the mechanics are very easy to understand and teach, which makes it ideal for family, casual, or younger gamers! However, the text and tone of the core Tiny Dungeon 2e book is very much derived from your average fantasy roleplaying game. The micro-settings are written for adult and experienced gamers, oftentimes containing themes and ideas that a younger or more casual audience might not enjoy.

While it's easy to strip out those pieces, you can't hand a 8 year old Tiny Dungeon 2e and have them reading it and gaming (least, you couldn't have handed 8 year old me that game).

We're constantly asked if the TinyD6 line is kid and casual gamer-friendly, and while mechanically it is, we've never made a concentrated effort to deliver a deliberately targeted version for those audiences. Well, we are now!

Tiny Dungeon: Hatchling Edition will be written for and targeted at including younger and casual gamers in the hobby! At it's core, it will be the same mechanical game, but we're going to be tweaking and modifying the language and rules to make sure it's easily accessible to those new audiences!

Alana has already started putting together a team of exceptional RPG talent, and we've set ourselves another goal:

Tiny Dungeon: Hatchling Edition will be an all female production, showcasing a lot of the great talent that our female contributors bring to our work. We work with a lot of great women in the hobby industry, and we wanted to showcase them in a book that's all their own, with their unique and exceptional talents!

Alana has already assembled some stunning talent to put to work here:

  • BJ Hensley (design and writing)
  • Amie Rose Rotruck (writing)
  • Kimberly Pauley (writing)
  • Margaret Dunlap (writing)
  • Sarah Schanze (art)

Alana had this to say about the idea: "My second grader is on the cusp of becoming a tabletop gamer, and it's daunting, as a parent, to hand her a huge rule book and explain the nuances of a whole new system. The beauty of creating a Tiny Dungeon 2e book designed to be approachable for a younger audience--staffed entirely by women game designers and artists--is that not only do I get to start a game with her that's approachable and easy to pick up, but I get to show her that both the fantasy world and the *gaming* world are something she can be a part of."

Gallant Knight Games feels that gaming is for everyone, and we wanted to do something to showcase that! With your help, and this last stretch goal, we can deliver a product for parents, children, and families, carefully crafted by some of the most talented women in gaming!

Actual Play Live-Stream Unlocked!

And we've unlocked a 12 session live-stream with a free PDF at the end! Excellent news! Thank you everyone for your support.

So what is our next stretch goal? Well, it's one that I am very excited about.

$45,000 Stretch Goal - Tiny Frontiers - Revised!

At $45,000, we'll be putting money into a revision of our very first RPG (and our first TinyD6 RPG), Tiny Frontiers!

Let me explain why. Tiny Frontiers was our first game. I'm very proud of the great work on it. However, in the last 18 months, we've learned a lot about producing games. We've gotten better, faster, and improved our talents. Now, Tiny Frontiers has been left behind.

It also doesn't sell as well as it's counter-part, Tiny Frontiers: Mecha & Monsters. When an expansion is outselling the core game, you have an issue. Part of the issue is the art. TF:M&M's cover art leaps out and grabs you. TF doesn't do that, and that's a problem.

And honestly, the perfectionist in me knows I can do better now, and wants to.

I hear you. You're saying, "Sure Alan. But how does this reward impact us?" or "Aw man, I just bought Tiny Frontiers,. What a waste of money."

Well, I can answer both of those for you.

So how does this Stretch Goal benefit you? All backers on this Kickstarter will get a free PDF of the new Tiny Frontiers: Revised. It's that simple. You're making this happen. We will give you a PDF.

If you just bought or have already bought Tiny Frontiers, don't worry. Your copy won't be out of date. In fact it'll mostly be up to date. Here's a list of the big revisions coming down:

  • Some new Heritages
  • Clarified, errata'd and expanded rules
  • Revised Starship system
  • All new interior art
  • All new cover
  • All new graphic design
  • All new micro-settings (replacing the previous ones)
  • Rules text brought in line with the changes spawned from Tiny Dungeon 2e

If you already own Tiny Frontiers, we'll have an easy to use PDF changelong of the changes between the original and revised games to make it easy on you.

This will also not be getting a Kickstarter, instead getting a direct release, so we'll be providing all the backers here with a coupon to get the new print edition of Tiny Frontiers: Revised at a discount (again, as a thank you)!

I'm very excited about this stretch goal, and I think you'll like what we're cooking up!

Art Preview! Cover Print! & Add-On Information (Please Read!)

Some more previews of the new art we've commissioned as part of our stretch goals to increase the art count in the book!

These will also be getting cards in the Bestiary Deck!

Speaking of the physical Wave II add-ons (see what I did there?), we're finalizing our plans for these! We won't know exactly how many we'll need to print until after the Kickstarter, so we have two plans in place:

  • First - If the order amount is small, we'll provide them via a Print on Demand service to backers (such as DriveThruCards or similar). We've done this in the past for other card projects and we've been happy with the quality of their tuckboxes and cards.
  • Second - (This is the preferable option), we'll provide them via a regular print run through our printer. This will allow us to do Destiny of Tides, the Bestiary Deck and The Treasure Deck as a convenient Wave II package!

Why am I telling you this? One, I believe in transparency. You should know what you're getting. We'll have a better idea after the Kickstarter of how many of each of these we'll need, but my gut check tells me we'll be doing the second option.

Two (and most important to you), this impacts shipping costs. As we stated in Update 19, the shipping on your pledge is only for the items included on your pledge. The Wave II physical items you get will have additional shipping charges attached to them. We're keeping it as small as we can, and after the Kickstarter you'll see in the BackerKit what we're talking about.

  • As an example: we're looking at a $2 to $3 shipping charge per item (this is subject to change and based on location), if we can do a normal full print run.
  • If we fulfill using a Print on Demand service, the shipping charges will be higher.

As we've always said, our goal is affordable, high-quality products. That isn't changing and we're going to be doing Wave II right.

Cover Prints

Gallant Knight Games is not offering prints of the cover of Tiny Dungeon 2e (sorry! Shipping and fulfilling poster sized prints is a nightmare for a small operation like us.)

But we've teamed up with the cover artist Michael Leavenworth to have him sell the prints himself!

If you want a print of the Tiny Dungeon 2e Cover, you can get it HERE.

A note:

  • Gallant Knight Games makes a small percentage on each sale (not much, we made it a priority to have most of the money go to Michael).
  • We worked with Michael to make sure the options and quality met our standards

Thanks everyone for supporting Gallant Knight Games and Tiny Dungeon 2e! We're excited to have you on board, and we're thrilled that this community is making this game such a success!

New Stretch Goal!
about 9 years ago – Mon, Sep 18, 2017 at 04:26:00 PM

$35,000 Down!

We've unlocked the Treasure & Item Deck to be released as part of Wave II!

So what is our goal for $40,000?

At $40,000, we'll be teaming up with our friends as Victory Condition Gaming to do a monthly Tiny Dungeon 2e actual play & live stream! This 12 session campaign will be released (upon it's completion) as a compiled adventure path for all backers in PDF! We will stream one session a month, starting in January, and next December, the campaign will come out!

We're finalizing our player list, but we think you're gonna love what we have!

We still have two and a half weeks left, so we can easily hit this goal! Thank you so much for your support and help!

WOW! $30,000!
about 9 years ago – Sat, Sep 16, 2017 at 09:31:48 AM

Wow...

In one week, we've raised $30,000 for our little game! Thank you so much everyone for your support!

In a day or two, we'll have a preview of the bestiary cards to show you, but for now, let's tell you about our $35,000 goal!

At $35,000, we will create a Treasure & Item Deck to be released as part of Wave II to all backers in PDF! Much like the Bestiary Deck, this will be 50ish cards that serve to be references about magic items, scrolls, potions or more that your Adventurers find whilst delving the depths of the dungeons! You'll be able to add on a physical version of the deck for $10 USD (with shipping to be handled in BackerKit after the campaign).

You'll be able to use the deck for reference in play or as a random treasure deck, where you can quickly generate the hoard of loot you'll invariably have to give your players! (Shhh, we know you won't, but don't tell them! It's why they keep charging headfirst into trapped dungeons.)

Oh fine, we'll give you a preview. Below is a sample of the Red Dragon front of the Bestiary Card!

Important Note: The Bestiary Cards are in greyscale, as we're utilizing the art we purchased for Tiny Dungeon 2e (for a good portion of the deck). During the design of Tiny Dungeon 2e, part of our focus was maintaining the feel of the original edition, which used the fantastic greyscale artwork of Anthony Cournoyer.

We'll be commissioning new art for this Bestiary Deck, but it will be greyscale like the rest of the art in Tiny Dungeon 2e!
